How to Play

There are many ways to play the game, the only limit is your imagination, but here are some examples.

1) To learn vocabulary, two cards are placed facing up in the centre of the table, all other cards are in a pile facing down. The first person to identify the two identical images and call out the name wins one card. This player wins one of the cards and then over the next card. The game continues until all the cards have been won. The players then count their cards to see who has the most and is therefore the winner.

Easy? No! it´s not, it´s a game of observation and speed. It´s excellent for focusing attention.

2) To describe things – in this game the first player selects a card from a fanned set of cards– the player selects an image without saying the name of the image, but instead describes it.

  • It´s big/ small… It´s very small, quite small etc.
  • It´s "colour" – it´s green with spots
  • It´s used for …cutting, sitting on, playing, eating etc.
  • It´s made of…metal/ plastic/ cloth/paper/glass
  • What shape is it? round/ square/ long/thin/wide
  • The students who identifies the card must say Is it a…?
  • The teacher/ Player – must repond in full sentences – Yes it is or No it isn´t
  •  If they are correct they win the card and take their turn to describe the next image on the next cards.
  • Comparative adjectives and adverbs. It's bigger than ... a and smaller than a .... It's faster than. It's as ... as

Note: students can only make one guess per image

3) As a sentence builder – the images can be used as prompts to make sentences. Make a sentence with Donkey and Dress. I dressed my donkey in a pink dress -the sentence doesn´t have to make sense, but the grammar must be correct. Be prepared for a lot of laughing!!

4) As a storytelling outline. The players use the images to make a story – Use the storytelling guide words to help structure the story. The images are a creative tool to prompt ideas for plot, character, and setting. The cards can be used effectively for both written and oral storytelling. Use the Plot Card for Guidance

In the beginning, then, finally
Who, What? Where? When? Why?

5) As a spelling bee – The teacher / students chooses an image and asked another student how do you spell – use the index card to check the spelling.

6) Bingo Cards – to get all students involved, use the spelling bee index to call out cards at random, the students can use crumpled pieces of paper to mark their images when the names are called.
